Setting personalized targets and assessing for individual progress enables our teachers to offer your child meaningful feedback. Your child will be a collaborator in this process, self assessing their own work and becoming an active participant in the learning process.

Combining Support and Challenge

Throughout the school, teachers create individualized plans to support and challenge each student. These plans are reviewed by school and department leaders each term to ensure your child is progressing and that appropriate adjustments are made.

In the Lower School, your child will receive feedback that congratulates them on successes and sets a clear and specific target to aim for next. We sometimes call this “two stars and a wish”.

Self-Assessment and Peer Assessment

Teachers explain the learning objective at the start of every lesson. At the project’s conclusion, your child will be asked to reflect upon their work and assess it against that objective.

Next steps and new learning targets are then set by the teacher, often with input from your child, based on your child’s individual needs. Teaching and learning activities for the days ahead are adapted appropriately. 

Introduced to this concept of self-assessment early in life, your child will quickly come to understand the importance of progress over time. Your child will also learn to assess the work of classmates, developing compassion and collaborative abilities. 

Standardized Testing and Examinations

While we do not overly value standardized tests as assessment tools, we feel they have a role as a means of measuring your child’s progess over time.

At the end of Grades 1 and 5 your child will take math and English tests given around the globe to students following the same curriculum. The results provide a tool to measure your child’s personal progress as well as their progress in relation to a large international cohort.

In the High School, your child will take IGCSE exams at the end of Grade 10. Grade 12 students conclude their studies with the highly regarded IB Diploma Programme exams.
